2002 TECHNOLAWYER @ AWARDS: A NIGHT OF SWEEPS AND UPSETS
New York, New York -- April 15, 2002.
The ceremony for the 2002 TechnoLawyer @ Awards took place in cyberspace on
April 11, 2002 after three weeks of voting by TechnoLawyer subscribers for
their favorite products and services.
The TechnoLawyer @ Awards is one of the most comprehensive and creative of
all legal events as it encompasses 24 different awards and features a live
ceremony.
"We believe that every nook and cranny in the legal market deserves
recognition." said Neil J. Squillante, Manager of TechnoLawyer and
President of PeerViews Inc., its parent company, in his opening remarks at
the ceremony. "Our ever-expanding @ Awards try to provide as much coverage
as possible."
The transcript of last week's ceremony, which many lawyers use as a buying
guide, will be published this week in the TechnoLawyer @ Awards newsletter
on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, but lawyers and others who join
TechnoLawyer at -- http://www.technolawyer.com -- can request a free copy
anytime.
FOUR LEGAL VENDORS WIN 14 OF THE 21 READER'S CHOICE @ AWARDS
Time Matters Software, which makes the popular practice management software
Time Matters, was the big winner, taking home six of the 21 reader's choice
@ Awards, including Favorite Case/Practice Management Solution, Favorite
Legal Tech Support, and Favorite Time-Billing Solution (the latter an upset
victory over four-time winner Timeslips).
In his acceptance speech for Time Matters' fifth consecutive @ Award for
Favorite Case/Practice Management Solution, Tom Rowe, Vice President of
Legal Products, noted: "We believe our success can be attributed to one of
our key product design elements -- Choice. In an age of huge corporate
powerhouses dedicating their full resources to eliminating choice (other
than theirs), we have developed products that bring choice back into the
technology world."
Other multiple @ Award winners consisted of:
Law.com, which won Favorite Legal Web Site, Favorite Online CLE Provider,
and Favorite Transcript Management Solution;
LexisNexis, which won Favorite Document Assembly/Automation Solution,
Favorite Legal Forms Solution, and Favorite Legal Research Tool; and
Summation Legal Technologies, which won Favorite Litigation ASP and
Favorite Litigation Support Solution.
THREE LEGAL TECHNOLOGY STARS WIN SPECIAL ACHIEVEMENT @ AWARDS
In addition to the 21 reader's choice @ Awards, TechnoLawyer also handed
out three special achievement @ Awards.
For the second consecutive year, Dennis Kennedy, a lawyer at Thompson
Coburn in St. Louis, won the @ Award for Syndicated Contributor of the
Year. In his acceptance speech, Mr. Kennedy noted: "One of [TechnoLawyer's]
best innovations is the TechnoFeature newsletter, in which articles on
legal technology can gain a new life through republication and syndication.
It's great to receive an e-mail out of the blue ... telling me that another
magazine is publishing one of my articles."
Seth Rowland, a leading document assembly expert who presides over Basha
Systems in New York, won the @ Award for Legal Technology Consultant of the
Year. "Six years ago, ... I left [legal practice] to play with my computer
toys full-time and pursue my vision of transforming the practice of law,"
noted Mr. Rowland in his acceptance speech. "Document assembly is lawyering
writ large," he added.
Finally, Bruce Olson, a litigation partner at Davis & Kuelthau in
Wisconsin, won the @ Award for TechnoLawyer of the Year. In his acceptance
speech, Mr. Olson quipped: "I have tried for many years to convince other
practicing attorneys how important legal technology can be, and each time I
talk with someone and see the light bulb go on as they comprehend how their
practice can be improved by technology I get a great sense of
satisfaction."
